S1E20 Pitching Command Show: Peter Gammons 10/18/23

Peter Gammons began his journalism career at the Boston Globe where he covered the Red Sox for most of the 1970s and 1980s. He was also a lead baseball columnist for Sports Illustrated, as well as writing a column for Sporting News.

Peter Gammons then joined ESPN as a baseball analyst in 1988 and appeared regularly on Baseball Tonight and also made appearances on SportsCenter. In 2009, he left ESPN and joined the MLB Network.

Peter Gammons was voted the National Sportswriter of the Year three times by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

A great discussion with Peter Gammons about training and measuring pitching control, command, sequencing and what it takes to pitch at higher levels of baseball.

With everyone throwing hard nowadays, command is now the separator. It’s no longer a choice between being either a power pitcher or a finesse pitcher today. You need to be both, velocity with command. Command is what separates pitchers from the pack today.
